Meritxell Nomdedeu Fàbrega: Investigating How Clonal Haematopoiesis Disrupts Erythropoiesis at King’s College London

Meritxell Nomdedeu Fàbrega, Senior Specialist in Hemotherapy and Hemostasis at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, shared a post on LinkedIn:

”Two months ago, I began a research stay at the Department of Haematology of King’s College London, an internationally recognised centre of excellence in the study of hereditary anaemias.

Under the mentorship of Lynn Quek and Prof. John Strouboulis, experts in clonal haematopoiesis and the genetic regulation of erythropoiesis, respectively, I am investigating the mechanisms by which clonal haematopoiesis disrupts erythropoiesis.

This work will deepen our understanding not only of the consequences of clonal haematopoiesis, but also of anaemias with a marked inflammatory component, such as sickle cell disease and the thalassaemias.

In parallel, I will have the opportunity to gain in-depth insight into the Red Cell Centre at King’s College Hospital, a leading clinical reference model for red blood cell disorders.

Seven more months of intensive work lie ahead, with the goal of bringing this expertise back to Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and contributing to the advancement of both research and care for patients living with hereditary anaemias.”
