Tom Rifai: Menopause as a Critical Window for Cardiometabolic Prevention
Tom Rifai, Founder and CEO at Reality Meets Science Inc., shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Lily N. Dastmalchi et al. published in JACC:
“A new paper in JACC: Advances highlights menopause as an important cardiometabolic transition point in a woman’s life.
During the menopausal transition, changes in hormones, body fat distribution, lipids, insulin sensitivity, sleep, and vascular function can accelerate cardiovascular risk.
The key message is not criticism of clinicians.
Rather, it reflects how traditional training often separated women’s health, cardiology, and metabolic medicine into different silos.
Menopause should be recognized as a valuable window for prevention. It is an opportunity for clinicians to pay closer attention to cardiometabolic health and to strengthen lifestyle and risk factor management.
Better integration across primary care, cardiology, gynecology, and lifestyle medicine can help women navigate this transition with stronger long term cardiovascular health.
Reality Meets Science.
Midlife is not just a transition.
It is also an opportunity for prevention.”
