Atul Gupta: Why the Czech Republic is Recognized as A Global Leader in Stroke Care?

Atul Gupta, Chief Medical Officer, Image Guided Therapy and Precision Diagnosis at Philips, shared on LinkedIn:

”Small Nation, Global Giant: The Czech Stroke Model

I wanted to see why the Czech Republic is recognized as a global leader in stroke care.

Last week I met with stroke and interventional neuro experts in Prague.

To put their stats into perspective:
22 Minutes: The median ‘Door-to-Needle’ time nationwide. When Time is Brain, thrombectomy saves neurons and saves lives!

(Comparison: That is nearly twice as fast as the 40–60 minute benchmark often seen in the U.S. and UK.)

High-Density Care:

With 47 specialized stroke centers, CZ maintains one of the highest densities of accredited stroke units per capita in Europe: ~4.3 specialized stroke centers per million people.

(Comparison: Much higher than the European average (~2.5), ensuring 85% of the population has immediate access to life-saving units!)

World First:

CZ is on track to become the ‘first country’ in the world to have its entire territory certified as an ‘Angels Excellence Region’ for stroke.

This is a clear example of how a coordinated national network—not just individual hospitals—saves lives!

Thank you, Dr. Alena Šnajdrová and Motol and Homolka University Hospital for your insights on stroke, aneurysm disease, MMA, CAVF and the future of interventional neuro!”
