Sam K. Saha: Stroke Recovery Cannot Wait Until Discharge

Sam K. Saha, VP of Medical Operations and Technology at Sevaro, shared a post on LinkedIn:

”Most families think stroke recovery begins after discharge.

That belief costs real brain function.

One of the most painful things I see as a neurologist is families sitting quietly at the bedside waiting for discharge, assuming recovery comes later.

Patients lying still, thinking rest is what the brain needs right now.

Both are understandable and both cost real function.

Stroke recovery starts the moment you are medically stable.

The brain is at its most plastic in the hours and days immediately following a stroke, and that window is precious.

Early rehabilitation dramatically changes outcomes, and every day spent waiting is a day of recovery the brain doesn’t get back.

If you or someone you love has had a stroke, ask about rehab on day one, push for it and advocate loudly.

Recovery starts inside that hospital room, from day one.

That distinction can mean the difference between regaining function and losing it permanently.”
