Amanda Thijsen։ How Do People Feel After Donating Blood Or Plasma?

Amanda Thijsen, Research Associate in Implementation Science at the University of Sydney, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Transfusion:

”New research published: how do people feel after donating blood or plasma?

We surveyed whole-blood donors, plasma donors, and non-donors to explore post-donation experiences and recovery beliefs.

Our key findings:

  • Most donors felt no different after donating
  • Women and younger donors reported more tiredness
  • Many people misjudged recovery times for blood volume and iron
  • Hydration was common after donation but iron-focused recovery was not

These findings highlight the need for clearer, evidence-based education to support donor recovery and retention as well as new donor recruitment.”
