Leonardo Roever: Prognostic Impact of Lipoprotein(a) and CAR in Elderly Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients
Leonardo Roever, CEO of Brazilian Evidence-Based Health Network, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article by Yi Tang et al, published in Lipids in Health and Disease, adding:
”Association between lipoprotein(a) and composite inflammatory indices with functional outcomes in acute ischemic stroke: a prospective cohort study
Dysregulated lipid metabolism and systemic inflammatory cascades significantly compromise the neurofunctional trajectory of acute ischemic stroke (IS).
However, the precise pathological mechanisms that explain the interactive pathogenic effects of lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] and composite inflammatory markers in whole blood on prognostic interventions remain unclear.
Elevated baseline Lp(a) and CAR levels were independently associated with unfavorable functional outcomes early and at 90 days in this cohort of elderly IS patients.
Concomitant elevation of Lp(a) and CAR was associated with a higher likelihood of adverse outcome.”
