Vallabh Janardhan: Thrombectomy Has Transformed What Is Possible for Patients with Life-Threatening Vascular Emergencies
Vallabh Janardhan, Co-Founder and CMO at Insera Therapeutics, Inc., shared on LinkedIn:
”Today is World Thrombectomy Day.
Thrombectomy refers to minimally invasive catheter-based procedures designed to remove blood clots from blood vessels and restore blood flow.
Over the last decade, thrombectomy has transformed what is possible for patients suffering from stroke and other life-threatening vascular emergencies including pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, acute limb ischemia, thrombosed dialysis access, and even certain forms of heart attack.
What once often resulted in devastating disability, limb loss, or death can now, in many cases, be treated through rapid image-guided intervention with remarkable recovery.
But successful thrombectomy begins long before the angio suite.
It begins with:
- awareness
- rapid recognition
- EMS activation
- transport coordination
- imaging
- emergency teams
- nurses, technologists, physicians, and multidisciplinary systems all moving together against time
One of the greatest privileges of my career has been working alongside extraordinary teams committed to advancing systems of care and improving access to life-saving intervention.
Breakthrough technology only changes outcomes when combined with great teams and coordinated systems of care.
Grateful to all the EMS professionals, nurses, physicians, technologists, hospital administrators, researchers, healthcare and medtech investors, innovators, professional societies, industry partners, healthcare systems, patients, and families advancing thrombectomy care around the world every single day.”
