Pancytopenia occurs when all three blood cell lines are decreased:

  • RBC
  • WBC
  • Platelets

Quick coding concept:

  • If Thrombocytopenia plus Neutropenia plus Anaemia are documented together to Code Pancytopenia
  • If only any two conditions are documented – Code separately
    Knowing root words like -penia (decrease) and – cytosis (increase) helps improve coding accuracy and clinical understanding.”
