Michael Makris: How Haemophilia Care Is Delivered in China
Michael Makris, Emeritus Professor of Haemostasis and Thrombosis at University of Sheffield, reposted from RPTH Journal on LinkedIn:
”If you would like to know how haemophilia care is delivered in China then have a look at this paper.”
Quoting RPTH Journal‘s post about a recent article by Yun Wang et al, adding:
”Inherited bleeding disorders in China: a rapidly evolving therapeutic and healthcare landscape
With over 1.4 billion people, China faces a growing demand for the diagnosis and treatment of inherited bleeding disorders (IBDs), particularly haemophilia.
A new review in RPTH Journal takes stock of the remarkable progress made in recent years and the road ahead.
Key highlights:
- China is rapidly expanding its domestic manufacturing capacity for IBD therapeutics, from basic replacement therapies to advanced treatments including gene therapy
- A tiered healthcare system for haemophilia is being developed to optimise resource allocation and standardise care across both rural and urban areas
- A diverse pipeline of investigational domestic novel drugs is under active development
- The goal: more efficient, cost-effective, and accessible care for patients nationwide
This review offers a comprehensive overview of where China stands today, and where it is headed, in the management of inherited bleeding disorders.
The combination of domestic drug innovation and an evolving healthcare delivery system could significantly improve outcomes and quality of life for patients across the country.”
