Razan Awan: Large Cohort Study Questions Routine Use of Dual Antiplatelet Therapy After TAVI
ٌRazan Awan, Deputy Director of Residency Training Program at King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital, Cardiology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Journal of Clinical Medicine, adding:
“Our new paper has just been published!
‘Single Versus Dual Antiplatelet Therapy After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation in Patients Without Chronic Anticoagulation.’
Journal of Clinical Medicine — Published June 5, 2026
In this work, we analyzed 662 consecutive TAVI patients without chronic anticoagulation to compare single antiplatelet therapy (SAPT) versus dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT).
Across multiple analytical models — including time-varying, intention-to-treat, landmark, and IPTW-weighted Cox analyses — no statistically significant difference was found between SAPT and DAPT in ischemic MACE (death, stroke, or MI) or net adverse clinical events.
These real-world findings support SAPT as a reasonable default antiplatelet strategy after TAVI, consistent with current ACC/AHA and ESC guidelines.
A special thank you to our lead author Monirah Albabtain, and corresponding author Amr Arafat, and to all co-authors for their incredible collaboration and dedication: Aisha Alrasheedi, Maha M. AlHarthi, Zaid Alanazi, and Nawaf Aldhubayti.”
