Igor Carvalho de Oliveira: The Hidden Genetic Risk Behind Early Heart Attacks and Strokes

Igor Carvalho de Oliveira, Co-Founder of Deolify Health and Research, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Journal of Clinical Lipidology, adding:

”Heart attacks and strokes are well-known diseases of lifestyle and aging.

Although that is true in many cases, for some patients, the underlying cause is genetic.

I am proud to share our latest publication on Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH), an inherited disorder that causes lifelong elevations in LDL cholesterol and significantly increases the risk of premature cardiovascular disease.

Most affected individuals are never diagnosed, therefore, opportunities for early intervention are missed in more than 90% of them.

Yes, that’s a lot of people.

Our review explores the current evidence on diagnosis, genetic testing, risk stratification, and treatment strategies, with a focus on improving detection and preventing avoidable cardiovascular events.

Prevention works best when we identify risk before disease develops or aggravates.

Thank you to my co-authors for their collaboration on this project.”
