Sharmila Manian: World Blood Donor Day – Where Generosity Meets Smart Medicine
Sharmila Manian, Transfusion Medicine Specialist at Hospital Sultan Ismail, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“This World Blood Donor Day, we’re celebrating a powerful partnership: The Generous Donor and Smart Medicine.
While blood donors give the ultimate gift of life, Patient Blood Management (PBM) ensures that every single drop is used precisely, safely, and only when absolutely necessary.
Think of it this way:
Donors secure the supply.
PBM optimizes the patient’s own blood and tailors treatments to minimize the need for transfusions.
When we combine the selflessness of donation with the science of PBM, we improve patient recovery times, reduce risks, and safeguard our community’s blood supply for real emergencies.
Thank you to every donor who rolls up their sleeve, and every healthcare professional practicing PBM to make those donations go further!”
