Strengthening Laboratory Capacity for Earlier Sickle Cell Disease Diagnosis Across Africa – ASH
American Society of Hematology shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Stronger laboratories mean faster diagnoses and better outcomes for children with sickle cell disease.
With support from the ASH Foundation, at the 2026 CONSA Laboratory Summit, more than 35 laboratory professionals, clinicians, and stakeholders from across the seven CONSA countries came together to share best practices in newborn screening, explore emerging technologies, and strengthen the quality of sickle cell disease diagnosis.
The former Minister of Health of Uganda also joined the meetings and expressed support for efforts to expand newborn screening for sickle cell disease.
The summit provided an opportunity for participants to exchange knowledge, address common challenges, and collaborate on strategies to improve laboratory systems and diagnostic capacity for sickle cell disease across sub-Saharan Africa.
By investing in training, innovation, and regional collaboration,
CONSA is helping expand access to early diagnosis and connect more children and families to timely, lifesaving care.
Support CONSA through the ASH Foundation.”
