Andrea Cesari: Comparing Catheter-Based Reperfusion Strategies for Intermediate-High-Risk PE
Andrea Cesari, Cardiologist at Niguarda Hospital, Milan, shared post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Journal of Clinical Medicine, adding:
“I am pleased to share our recent multicenter study evaluating catheter-based reperfusion strategies in patients with intermediate-high-risk acute pulmonary embolism (PE).
In the ‘USAT IH-PE‘ registry, we compared ultrasound-assisted catheter-directed thrombolysis (USAT) and mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in a real-world cohort of patients treated during the acute phase of PE.
After propensity-score matching, both approaches were associated with significant improvements in RV function and pulmonary hemodynamics, with comparable 30-day mortality outcomes and low rates of major bleeding.
These findings contribute to the growing body of evidence supporting catheter-based therapies in selected patients with intermediate-high-risk PE, while emphasizing the importance of individualized treatment decisions in contemporary practice.”
Elena Gualini, Cardiologist at Niguarda Hospital, Milan, shared Andrea Cesari‘s post on LinkedIn:
“Happy to share our latest publication, providing real-world evidence on catheter-directed therapies for intermediate-high-risk pulmonary embolism”
