Abdul Moiz Siddiqi: Systematic Review Finds Comparable Outcomes for Ticagrelor and Prasugrel in ACS
Abdul Moiz Siddiqi, Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Dow Medical College, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Cardiology in Review, adding:
“Alhumdulillah, I am incredibly thrilled to announce my first ever publication!
Our paper ‘Comparative Efficacy and Safety of Ticagrelor and Prasugrel in Acute Coronary Syndrome’ is now published in the ‘Cardiology in Review‘ journal.
Key Takeaways:
- Prasugrel and ticagrelor demonstrated comparable clinical efficacy and safety profiles in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
- All-cause mortality occurred in exactly 3.53 percent of patients in both treatment arms, showing zero statistical difference between the two drugs (P=0.66)
- No significant differences were observed across major secondary ischemic outcomes, including cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stent thrombosis or stroke
- There is no clear universal winner or drug hierarchy so clinicians should select the P2Y12 inhibitor based on specific patient traits, compliance factors (like once-daily versus twice-daily dosing), tolerability, and explicit contraindications
This is my first ever grand achievement in the field of medicine and research.
I am grateful to have worked alongside incredibly supportive, passionate and professional peers without whom this would not have been possible.
I am specially grateful to Muhammad Ahmed and Shaheer Bin Shafiq my mentors for believing in me and providing me the opportunity to work on this project.”
