Alireza Fatemi: TNF-α as a Biomarker in Atrial Fibrillation

Alireza Fatemi, BMC Journals Reviewer at BMC, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Clinical and Applied Thrombosis/Hemostasis, adding:

”I’m pleased to share our recent publication in Clinical and Applied Thrombosis/Hemostasis (Impact Factor: 2.3, Q2, 2026):

‘Association Between TNF-Alpha Levels and Atrial Fibrillation Outcomes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.’

In this comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis, we synthesized evidence from 23 studies comprising 2,369 atrial fibrillation patients and 6,091 controls.

Our pooled analysis revealed that elevated TNF-α levels are significantly associated with the presence of atrial fibrillation (SMD = 1.15; P = 0.0001).

However, we observed substantial heterogeneity across studies, highlighting the need for standardized methodologies in future research.

These findings reinforce the role of inflammation in AF pathogenesis and suggest TNF-α as a potential biomarker for risk stratification.

Special thanks to my co-authors, Bahar Amirgholami, Yasmin Yazdooei, Aylin Taghipour, Amirali Zamani, and Ali Ajdarkosh.”
