Sian James: Driving Innovation Across Blood and Transfusion Medicine
Sian James, Head of Research, Development and Innovation Services at Welsh Blood Service, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“When I look across our RD and I portfolio at the Welsh Blood Service, one metric always stands out: Collaboration.
Partnership working has been in place from very beginning, helping position the Welsh Blood Service as a lynchpin in the delivery of healthcare, research and innovation across Wales.
Over the last year, our collaborative mean our RD and I is supporting work that aims to improve outcomes for patients affected by:
- Blood cancers and stem cell transplantation
- Kidney and pancreas transplant
- Fetal and neonatal thrombocytopenia
- Platelet transfusion refractoriness
- Major bleeding, trauma and emergency transfusion care
- Requiring multiple blood transfusion in Cancer
- Inherited genetic conditions
- Graft-versus-host disease
- Complex transfusion and red cell antibody disorders
We also have exciting plans for 2027 in the field of emergency transfusion care, which I believe will mark a major step forward in delivering our RD and I ambitions and further strengthen the contribution Welsh Blood Service research can make to patient care.
Keep an eye on your webpage.
But for all this everything described above is only possible because of the generosity of the Welsh Blood Service blood, platelet and stem cell donors.”
