Ulrich Sachs: A New Strategy to Prevent Platelet Transfusion Refractoriness
Ulrich Sachs, Chief Physician at University Hospital Giessen and Marburg, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in The Journal of Immunology, adding:
“I am delighted that we are part of this fruitful cooperation with the team of Alan Lazarus in Toronto, Canada.
A monovalent single-chain variable fragment antibody that targets the human Fc gamma receptor IIIA prevents destructive platelet phagocytosis in a humanized mouse model of platelet transfusion refractoriness.
That‘s excellent news! And it offers hope of a simple solution to a major everyday problem in transfusion medicine: providing platelet transfusions to patients with antibodies against HLA.”
