Subodh Verma: Tirzepatide Improves Multiple Cardiovascular Risk Pathways
Subodh Verma, Heart Surgeon-Scientist at Unity Health Toronto, Professor and Canada Research Chair, CV Surgery at Temerty Medicine, shared a post on X about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in JACC, adding:
“Delighted to share this new JACC analysis from SURMOUNT-1.
Over 72 weeks, we saw improvements across multiple pathways linked to cardiovascular risk – including inflammation, insulin resistance, adiposity and hepatic stress, endothelial dysfunction, and thrombosis.
At the 15-mg dose of Tirzepatide, placebo-adjusted changes included a 55% reduction in hsCRP, 30% reduction in IL-6, 39% reduction in HOMA-IR, 61% reduction in leptin, and 44% reduction in PAI-1, with adiponectin increasing by 48%.”
