Evan Mapelu: The People Who Make Cancer Care Meaningful

Evan Mapelu, Program Coordinator at The Max Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:

”Saturday mornings have a way of slowing things down.

After a busy week, it’s a good time to pause, reflect, and appreciate the people and experiences that continue to shape the work we do.

For me, working in cancer care has introduced me to some incredible people—the patients, families, healthcare professionals, colleagues, and community members. Every conversation teaches me something.

I’m especially mindful of the incredible, selflessness of the The Max Foundation partner physicians who give up their Saturday mornings to offer free consultations at The Nairobi Hospital. Sacrificing their own well-deserved rest to extend a lifeline to patients when it’s needed most is a profound reminder of what true dedication looks like.

So today, I’m simply taking a moment to appreciate the journey so far, the self-sacrificing spirit of our medical team, and all the people who make this work deeply meaningful.

What are you taking a moment to appreciate this Saturday?

ELo Mapelu
