“I am delighted to share that my paper on Factor XIII deficiency has been published in Frontiers-Medicine FXIIID is up to 10x more prevalent in countries with high rates of consanguinity. Yet it is frequently missed!

Routine coagulation screening cannot detect low FXIII levels, since it acts downstream in the clotting cascade, after the clot is already formed.

Compounding this, relatively low FXIII levels can still maintain adequate hemostasis, which can delay recognition. Together, these factors make FXIIID one of the most underdiagnosed bleeding disorders in clinical practice.

The review covers the epidemiology, molecular biology, and diagnostic strategies (and their pitfalls), along with management approaches, including special clinical scenarios such as pregnancy, neonatal care, surgery, and anticoagulation.

I hope this serves as a useful resource for hematologists, hematopathologists, laboratory specialists, and clinicians who may encounter this often-overlooked condition.”
