Natalie Arnold: Germany Recognizes Low-Dose Colchicine in CVD Prevention
Natalie Arnold, Preventive Cardiologist at University Heart and Vascular Center Hamburg, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Great news from Germany for anti-inflammatory therapy in CVD!
Today, the German Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) officially recognized an indication of additional benefit for low-dose colchicine in the secondary prevention of ischemic CV events, as an add-on to standard therapy.
In these turbulent times for anti-inflammatory therapies in cardiovascular disease, this decision extends beyond colchicine.
It supports the clinical relevance of targeting inflammation as part of residual-risk reduction and marks an important step toward translating this concept into cardiovascular care.
On a personal note, it was an absolute honor to lead together with Prof. Wolfgang Koenig, the interdisciplinary joint statement submitted by the German Cardiac Society (DGK), the German Society of Nephrology (DGfN), the German Society of Internal Medicine (DGIM), and the German Society for Prevention and Rehabilitation of Cardiovascular Diseases (DGPR) for this benefit-assessment procedure.
A huge thank you to all co-authors: Prof. Stephan Gielen, Prof. Ingo Hilgendorf, Prof. Bernd Nowak, Prof. Bernd Nowak, Prof. Harm Wienbergen , Prof. Peter R. Mertens , Prof. Christoph Wanner, Prof. Georg Ertl, Prof. Tilman Sauerbruch and Prof. Bernhard Schwaab – for their expertise, commitment and collegiality.
This is more than a regulatory decision – it is a meaningful step toward making inflammation an actionable target in cardiovascular prevention.”
