Ruchi Punamia: Building Stronger Foundations in Immunohematology

“Immunohematology: The Foundation We Cannot Afford to Overlook.

For me, Immunohematology is truly the bread and butter of every Transfusion Medicine specialist.

It is one of the strongest foundations on which every Transfusion Medicine professional should build their career.

Behind every blood group, antibody screen, compatibility test, or unexpected serological reaction lies a clinical question waiting to be answered.

And that is what makes Immunohematology so fascinating—it takes us from serological puzzles to meaningful clinical solutions.

It was therefore a wonderful opportunity and an immensely enriching experience to be part of the Immuno Haematology Masterclass: From Serological Puzzles to Clinical Solutions.

As the Organizing Secretary, being involved in bringing this academic initiative together was truly rewarding.

But what made the experience even more special was having the opportunity to be the first speaker of the CME, laying the foundation for the sessions that followed with my talk:

‘ABO Discrepancies: Recognition to Resolution’.

The enthusiastic participation from the audience made the session even more memorable.

I was especially delighted to see our junior residents asking questions, actively participating, and showing such genuine eagerness to learn and understand the ‘why’ behind the reactions.

Because that, to me, is what a good academic session should achieve—not just provide answers, but encourage participants to think, question, interpret, and solve.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making the CME such an engaging academic experience.

And a special appreciation to all the faculty, colleagues, and junior residents whose interaction and enthusiasm truly brought the Immuno Haematology Masterclass to life.

Here’s to strengthening the foundations of Immunohematology—one serological puzzle at a time, and one clinical solution at a time.”
