Leonardo Roever: Antiphospholipid Antibodies Present in 19% of Ischemic Stroke Cases
Leonardo Roever, CEO of Brazilian Evidence-Based Health Network, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Nathan W. Watson et al, published in Stroke, adding:
“Prevalence and Clinical Relevance of Antiphospholipid Antibodies in Ischemic Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) are associated with an increased risk of thrombosis.
However, individual studies have reported conflicting findings regarding the prevalence of aPL in patients with ischemic stroke and their association with initial or recurrent events.
Seropositivity for any aPL was observed in nearly 1 in 5 patients with ischemic stroke and was associated with a higher likelihood of ischemic stroke at clinical presentation.”
