Felix Scholkmann: Serotonin and the Formation of Microvascular Fibrin

Felix Scholkmann, Group Leader, Neurophotonics and Biosignal Processing Research Group at the University Hospital Zuric, shared a post on X about a recent article by Davide Marotta et al., published in Science Immunology, adding:

“Serotonin-driven platelet hyperactivation directly promotes extensive fibrin deposition in the microvasculature.

This finding could be relevant to explain the formation of persistent fibrinaloid microclots.”

Resia Pretorius, Vice-Dean for Research and Postgraduate Students at Stellenbosch University, Faculty of Science, shared Felix Scholkmann‘s post on X, adding:

“This is of great importance as we believe that amyloidogenic platelet debris forms the seeding areas for one of our main microclot complex phenotypes.”
