Aravind Palraj: 2025 EULAR Behçet’s Syndrome Update – 5 Practical Take-Home Points
Aravind Palraj, Senior Resident in Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at Madras Medical College, shared a post on X:
“2025 EULAR Behçet’s syndrome update — 5 practical take-home points:
- Colchicine remains first-line for recurrent mucocutaneous disease and acute arthritis
- Behçet uveitis needs immunosuppression — glucocorticoids should not be used alone
- Pulmonary or peripheral arterial aneurysm – high-dose glucocorticoids with infliximab; embolisation is preferred over open surgery when intervention is needed
- Venous thrombosis – control inflammation first; anticoagulation is not automatic and pulmonary artery aneurysm must be excluded
- Major organ disease increasingly favors early intensive immunosuppression, often with monoclonal anti-TNF therapy
A useful update across mucocutaneous, ocular, vascular, neurologic and GI Behçet’s disease.”
