“Coming home from Washington, DC, after Hemophilia Federation of America‘s Advocacy Retreat, I’m having a hard time putting this experience into words.
I’m overwhelmed.
Grateful beyond belief.
And honestly, overflowing with happiness and hope for what comes next.
One of the most meaningful parts of this week was watching generations of advocates come together.
People who have been doing this work for decades alongside people who are just finding their voices.
Parents advocating for their children.
Young adults advocating for themselves.
Experienced advocates sharing what they’ve learned and making room for the next generation.
And then there were the stories.
The passion. The vulnerability. The fierceness.
These conversations aren’t just about policy.
They are about people’s lives and the experiences that brought them into advocacy in the first place.
When we walked into congressional offices, we weren’t simply talking about issues-we were bringing the voices and lived experiences of an entire community with us.
That is what makes advocacy so powerful to me.
It is also a huge part of why I pursued my MPA and why advocacy has continued to be such a meaningful part of my career.
I believe deeply in creating spaces where people can be heard, understood, and empowered to use their voices.
And this week reminded me that advocacy is not something we do alone.
It’s family. It’s purpose. It’s community.
I’m incredibly thankful for the advocates who paved the way, the people who continue to stand beside me, and the newer advocates who are stepping into this work and finding their voices.
Watching all of those generations together left me with an incredible sense of hope.
There is still so much work to do.
But I’m coming home from DC more energized, more grateful, and more hopeful about the future than ever.
This is the work.
And I’m incredibly lucky to be part of it.
