“Rusfertide Earns NCCN Category 1 in Polycythemia Vera: What the Update Signals

Takeda announced on September 21 that rusfertide (Mimrylo™), FDA-approved on August 28, 2026, has been included as a Category 1 option across both low- and high-risk PV in the NCCN Guidelines for Myeloproliferative Neoplasms. It is the only therapy carrying Category 1 status across both risk groups.

The eviden ce base (Phase 3 VERIFY, NCT05210790)

▪ Population: phlebotomy-dependent patients with uncontrolled hematocrit
▪ Clinical response (weeks 20-32): 76.9 percent with rusfertide + standard of care vs 32.9 percent with placebo + SOC (P < .0001)
▪ Key secondary endpoints, including phlebotomy burden, hematocrit <45 percent and fatigue, were met
▪ Most common adverse events: injection site reactions (47.4 percent) and anemia (25.6 percent)

Rusfertide sits alongside standard hematocrit-directed care, and treatment decisions remain with treating clinicians.
