Paulus Kirchhof: Aortic stiffness – A Consequence of High Blood Pressure, or a Driver, or Both?

Paulus Kirchhof, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Birmingham, Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) and Director of the Department of Cardiology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, shared a post on LinkedIn about recent article by Katharina Alina Riedl et al., published in Clinical Research in Cardiology, adding:

“Aortic stiffness: A consequence of high blood pressure, or a driver, or both?

Aortic stiffness: A consequence a driver, or a modifier of high blood pressure, or all of these?

High blood pressure is an important cause of cardiovascular disease. But how does a high blood pressure damage the heart and vasculature?

This paper suggests that aortic stiffness plays a role. Another well-conducted analysis in the Hamburg City Health Study.”

Title: Associations of CMR-based pulse wave velocity and aortic distensibility with infrarenal ultrasound-based aortic parameters in the Hamburg City Health Study
