Brianne D.: Sex Differences in RIPK1 Signaling Following Intracerebral Hemorrhage
Brianne D., Research Technician II at Mass Geneal Brigham, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Hongmei Yang et al, published in Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism, adding:
“Excited to share a new publication where our findings reveal important sex differences in RIPK1 signaling after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and highlight the need to consider sex when developing RIPK1-targeted treatments and conducting future brain injury research.
We found that thirty-five days after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), RIPK1 activation in male mice was observed in various cell types, where it contributed to neuronal damage, inflammation, blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption, and cognitive deficits. Whereas in females, RIPK1 activation occurred exclusively in neurons and did not produce the same biochemical changes or significantly regulate most injury-related outcomes that were observed in males.”
