”AABB 2026 Annual Meeting Personal Highlights
Another great AABB annual meeting ended a week ago, leaving attendees with many new ideas and practices to implement. Besides the many thought-provoking talks and networking opportunities, everyone had personal highlights.
Mine included (1) the AABB Global Transfusion Forum luncheon, a wonderful opportunity to meet in person new members from around the world as well as members of the forum’s three Working Groups (Education; Research Policy, Practice and Implementation) and to discuss current and future projects; (2) seeing on the shelves for sale in the AABB conference bookstore the book Research Design in Transfusion Medicine that I edited with the collaboration of 50 brilliant authors of 34 chapters covering all the major research designs – the first of its kind in the field; (3) attending several stimulating AABB Award talks including those by Jose Cancelas, Edgar Engleman, Simon Stanworth – and one by my good friend Dr Nabajyoti Choudhury that focused on global transfusion (Hemphill-Jordan Leadership Award); (4) the chance to reconnect with friends and past transfusion leaders in transfusion at both AABB and ISBT (and especially gratifying to see how well the organizations are now working together).
