Obi Light Ogbonnia: I Gifted Him My Isi Agu, and He Gifted My Family the Sun
Obi Light Ogbonnia, Founder and President of Obi Ogbonnia Sickle Cell Foundation and Chief Executive Officer at VTN Global Resources Limited, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I Gifted him my Isi Agu. He Gifted my Family The Sun.
‘Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.’ — Hebrews 13:2
On March 3, 2026, I welcomed three visitors into my home: Cecilia, Kingsley and Mr. Pawel, who had arrived from Poland and were visiting Edo State before coming to Abuja.
We ate, chatted and laughed. It was a beautiful time of fellowship.
As we enjoyed their company, I wondered what gift I could give Mr. Pawel, whom I was meeting for the first time. Then I remembered my Isi Agu, a cherished traditional attire that holds deep cultural significance for the Igbo people. To me, it represents greatness, courage, the spirit of a warrior and the triumph of a victor.
I brought it out and asked him to wear it. That was the best gift I could offer him.
Little did I know that I was entertaining a man whose kindness would one day touch my family in ways I could never have imagined.
Seven months later, the words of Hebrews 13:2 came alive before my very eyes.
During one of our regular conversations, my wife casually mentioned how unbearable the heat in Abuja could be, especially with frequent power outages.
Days later, a solar company contacted me with astonishing news: Mr. Pawel had paid to equip our home with solar power, ensuring electricity around the clock.
Overwhelmed, I asked him why he had done something so generous.
His response brought me to tears:
‘Your help for people with sickle cell anemia is priceless. You and your loved ones deserve some help too’
For years, I have devoted myself to supporting people living with sickle cell disease through the Obi Ogbonnia Sickle Cell Foundation (OOSCF). I have witnessed pain, vulnerability and the desperate need for compassion. I have given what I could, often without knowing where the next resource would come from.
Yet, in that moment, someone reminded me that those who spend their lives helping others also deserve help.
Mr. Pawel, thank you.
You have done far more than provide electricity. You have brought comfort to my family, strengthened my faith in humanity and reminded me that kindness never loses its power.
I may have given you an Isi Agu, but you have given me a story I will tell for the rest of my life.
Your generosity has strengthened my resolve to continue this humanitarian work and do even more.
To everyone supporting a worthy cause, please keep going. You may never know whose life your kindness will touch, or when kindness will find its way back to you.
Sometimes, we welcome strangers into our homes, only to discover that God has sent them to bless our lives.
Mr. Pawel, may God bless you abundantly. May your kindness return to you in ways beyond your imagination.
Some gifts are worn. Others illuminate a home. But the greatest gifts restore our faith in God and humanity.”
