Mohammad Vahabi: Exploring the Role of JAK Inhibitors in Urticarial Vasculitis

Mohammad Vahabi, Research Fellow at Rush University Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, adding:

“Glad to see our systematic review on Janus kinase inhibitors for urticarial vasculitis published in the Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery.

We identified 20 reported patients treated with tofacitinib, upadacitinib, or ruxolitinib. All patients showed clinical improvement, with 50% achieving complete response and 50% partial response.

While these early findings are encouraging, larger controlled studies are needed to better define the role of JAK inhibition in refractory urticarial vasculitis.

Many thanks to my co-authors Sama Heidari, Elnaz Pourgholi, Dr. Michael Fein, Dr. Joe K. Tung, and Erin Xiaolu Barrett for their contributions and collaboration, and a special thank you to Elena Netchiporouk for her invaluable support and guidance throughout this work.”
