Pete Stibbs: From Scientific Ideas to Clinical Impact
Pete Stibbs, Senior Vice President, Global Medical Affairs and Medical Director at Argon Medical Devices, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I’ve had some time recently to reflect on my career and how fortunate I’ve been to do the work I do.
My career in academics and biotechnology has given me the opportunity to follow my intellectual curiosity and work alongside remarkable physicians and colleagues. I’ve helped take ideas from a hypothesis to a working model, into clinical study, and ultimately into devices that improve patient care. Being part of that process has been one of the greatest blessings of my professional life.
If someone asked me to map out the path that brought me here, I’m not sure I could. There was no straight line or carefully planned sequence. The old saying that success happens where preparation meets opportunity feels particularly true for me, with a fair amount of luck and the generosity of others along the way.
What I value most is the people. Physicians who care deeply about the procedures they perform, the devices they use, and the outcomes their patients experience. Engineers and designers who bring both creativity and rigor to turning those clinical ideas into something that works.
Colleagues who stay committed through the setbacks and uncertainty that are part of developing anything worthwhile.
A mentor once told me, ‘If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.’
During that same conversation, another mentor leaned over and said, ‘That’s not true. If you do what you love, you’ll work harder than anybody else because you care so much that you never want to see it fail.’
The longer I do this, the more I understand what each of them meant. I’m grateful to have found work, and people, that mean that much to me.”
