Kanza Khan: Hematology and Diagnostic Laboratory Techniques

Kanza Khan, Undergraduate Lab Intern at Center of Research Excellence In Biological Sciences, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Internship Week 4 | Hematology and Diagnostic Laboratory Techniques

My training at the Center of Research Excellence in Biological Sciences (CORE-BS), Bahria University continues to provide valuable hands-on laboratory experience.

Week 4 focused on developing practical skills in hematology, covering several fundamental techniques used in routine diagnostic laboratories.

Key techniques and practical sessions included:

Basic Techniques and Blood Morphology

  • Venipuncture (Phlebotomy): Practicing standard blood collection techniques and protocols.
  • Peripheral Blood Smear and Leishman Staining: Preparing and staining blood smears to examine cellular morphology under the microscope.

Functional Assays and Immunohematology

  • Bleeding Time Test: Performing the filter paper method to assess primary hemostasis.
  • ABO Blood Grouping: Identifying blood groups through antigen-antibody agglutination reactions.

As a Biotechnology student, gaining practical experience with these techniques is helping me strengthen my laboratory skills, attention to detail, and understanding of their applications in clinical diagnostics.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Qurat Abedin and Ratan Kumar for their guidance and continued support throughout these practical sessions.

Looking forward to building on these skills and exploring more laboratory techniques in the coming weeks!”
