Syeda Jazilah Faisal: Upstream Heparin in STEMI – Improving Coronary Reperfusion Before PCI

Syeda Jazilah Faisal, Director at Global Medical Pathways, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Circulation, adding:

“Thank God!!

Grateful to share that our research, ‘Upstream Versus Routine Unfractionated Heparin in STEMI Patients Undergoing Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials,’ has been published as an abstract in Circulation (Impact Factor: 41.3; Q1).

Our analysis brought together evidence from 5 randomized controlled trials, involving 12,288 participants. The results showed significantly better pre-PCI coronary reperfusion with upstream unfractionated heparin, without a significant increase in major bleeding or all-cause mortality.

The findings add to the existing evidence on early anticoagulation in STEMI management and reinforce the role of evidence-based approaches in clinical practice.

I would especially like to thank Zain Ul Abideen for his continued mentorship, valuable guidance, and support throughout this research journey.

Grateful to all my co-authors for their hard work, collaboration, and valuable contributions to this research.

Looking forward to continuing to learn and contribute to clinical research and evidence-based medicine.”
