Jared Rice: Why Neonatal Coagulation Cannot Be Interpreted Like Adult Coagulation
Jared Rice, Nurse Professional Development Specialist at Cleveland Clinic, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Most of us learned the coagulation cascade in adults first. Carrying that version into the NICU produces predictable misreads, and each one traces to a specific way the neonatal system differs.
Those differences are spread across several parts of the system, and references usually present them as a list of exceptions. The practical cost is a result that gets misjudged, which affects whether a baby is transfused or worked up for a bleeding disorder.
Watch to see the neonatal system laid out as one connected picture, and where the adult version stops applying.”
