“An excellent example of how endovascular techniques can be lifesaving well beyond traditional vascular surgery!
A new case in Journal of Vascular Surgery Cases, Innovations and Techniques describes acute IVC thrombosis following liver transplantation, with impending graft failure and a patient too unstable for repeat open reconstruction.
The vascular team performed mechanical thrombectomy, but persistent stenoses from caval torsion required venous stenting to restore outflow.
The most impressive finding? The stent remained patent at 1 year.
This case highlights the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration between transplant and vascular surgeons and the potential role of early endovascular salvage in otherwise high-risk situations.
