David Smadja: Molecular Determinants of Thrombosis Recurrence Risk Across Venous Thromboembolism Subtypes
David Smadja, Professor of Hematology (PU-PH) at University of Paris Cité, European Georges Pompidou Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:
”I am pleased to contribute to this international study led by the team of David-Alexandre Trégouët (first author: Gaëlle Munsch), which explores the molecular determinants of the recurrence of venous thromboembolism (VTE).
Through genomic analysis of more than 6,300 patients (including 1,775 recurrences), 28 molecular markers were identified that were associated with the risk of recurrence, revealing that the genetic architecture of this risk varies according to the type of initial event (deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, induced or not).
These results open up prospects for more personalized medicine, in order to better predict recurrence and adapt the duration of anticoagulant treatments.
This is an important step towards targeted prevention strategies and possible new therapeutic levers.
