Angie Read: How Purpose Helps Shape Life After Stroke
Angie Read, Founder and CEO of Stroke Sisters, MarComm Manager – Member Acquisition and Engagement at American Academy of Family Physicians, shared on LinkedIn:
”One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through my own stroke recovery is that healing isn’t just about regaining physical abilities.
It’s also about rediscovering purpose.
For me, that purpose became building the Stroke Sisters community, podcast, and app so women navigating stroke recovery never have to feel as alone as I did.
That’s one of the reasons I was so honored to interview Megan Goodrich for the latest episode of ‘Stroke Sisters: Stories of Strength and Resilience.’
Megan was just 41 when she suffered a massive stroke. She shares the warning signs she experienced, the frightening moments when her 8-year-old son helped save her life, and the long road back after waking from a medically induced coma.
Like so many survivors, Megan also had to grieve the loss of the career she loved.
But instead of giving up, she found a new sense of purpose through volunteering. Serving others became an important part of her healing and reminded her that she still had so much to offer.
Her story resonated deeply with me because it reflects something I’ve experienced myself.
Stroke may change our path, but it doesn’t take away our ability to make a meaningful impact.
If you know someone navigating life after stroke, or if you work in neurology, rehabilitation, healthcare, or patient advocacy, I hope you’ll take a listen.
Every survivor’s story has the power to give someone else hope.”
