Anila Mathan: Assuming Leadership as HOD at Madras Medical Mission with the Inauguration of the MMM-APTUS-Tanker Laboratory
Anila Mathan, Senior Consultant and HOD of Immunology of Madras Medical Mission, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Yesterday marked the inauguration of the MMM-APTUS-Tanker Immunology Laboratory at Madras Medical Mission, Chennai, a significant step forward in strengthening transplant immunology and diagnostic capabilities within the institution.
As I step into my new role as Senior Consultant and HOD, it feels especially meaningful to do so at a time when a field that has shaped much of my professional journey continues to evolve with greater depth and relevance.
From my early years at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore to my experience at Apollo Hospitals, HLA and transplant immunology have remained closely connected to my work and areas of interest.
This laboratory was envisioned from a very real clinical need recognised by Dr. Georgie Abraham, who reflected on the challenges faced when critical transplant related testing had to be outsourced, often delaying important clinical decisions.
That experience became the driving force behind building an in house facility that could support patients and clinicians with timely access to specialised immunology testing.
Today, that vision has taken shape through the support of Shri Anandan M and the MMM-APTUS-Tanker initiative.
The laboratory offers advanced transplantation focused immunology services including complement-dependent cytotoxicity crossmatch, flow cytometry crossmatch, molecular testing through Flexmap 3D and next-generation sequencing, along with HLA-related testing for drug sensitivity and disease evaluation.
As transplant programmes continue to expand, the role of integrated immunology laboratories within hospitals will become increasingly important in enabling faster decisions, improving compatibility assessment, and strengthening patient outcomes.
Grateful to be part of this important milestone and to begin this new chapter with work that is deeply meaningful to me.”
