Arwa Z. Al-Riyami, Board Member of Oman Medical Journal, Forum Editor at International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT), shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I am delighted to see three articles from the Eastern Mediterranean Region featured in the October 2026 issue of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) Transfusion Today magazine!

As ISBT Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, it has been a pleasure to review these contributions and support the authors in sharing their experiences, achievements, and innovations with the global transfusion medicine community.

These articles highlight the diversity of expertise across our region, from strengthening essential transfusion services to advancing highly specialised cellular therapies.

  • Iraq | Building Specialised Immunohematology Capacity

An inspiring account of developing specialised immunohematology services to resolve complex serological challenges, strengthen diagnostic capabilities, and improve transfusion safety through capacity building and professional collaboration.

  • Yemen | Strengthening Blood Transfusion Safety During Armed Conflict

A remarkable example of resilience and commitment to maintaining safe blood services amid challenging circumstances, highlighting the importance of quality improvement, workforce training, community engagement, and strategic partnerships.

  • Saudi Arabia | Advancing Therapeutic Apheresis and Cellular Therapy

An impressive overview of the evolution of therapeutic apheresis and cellular therapy at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre, showcasing progress in stem cell transplantation, CAR-T cell therapy, and local cell and gene therapy manufacturing.

My sincere appreciation and congratulations to all the authors for their valuable contributions and for showcasing the expertise, dedication, and progress of transfusion medicine across our region.

I look forward to receiving more contributions from colleagues throughout the EMR and continuing to promote knowledge exchange, and international collaboration through ISBT.
