Billy Alexander: Learning from Volunteers as I Begin My Journey with the Stroke Association Scotland
Billy Alexander, Physiotherapist, Associate Trainer at Triangle Consulting Social Enterprise Ltd, reposted from Voluntary Health Scotland on LinkedIn:
”As I prepare to join the Stroke Association, Stroke Association Scotland, I’ve been spending time this week learning more about the organisation, its impact across Scotland, and the incredible people who make that impact possible.
One thing that has really stood out to me is the experience of volunteers.
Of course, volunteers make a huge difference to stroke survivors and their families.
But what shines through just as strongly is the difference volunteering makes to the volunteers themselves – building confidence, creating a sense of purpose, developing new skills, and fostering a genuine sense of belonging and community.
Finding your tribe – so important!
The most effective organisations understand that volunteering is never a one-way relationship.
It is about people coming together around a shared purpose and leaving stronger because of it.
I’m looking forward to working closely with colleagues and volunteers across Scotland as we continue to grow our reach, support more people affected by stroke, and create opportunities for others to contribute their time, skills and experience.
If you’ve ever considered volunteering, I’d encourage you to take a look below.”
Quoting Voluntary Health Scotland‘s post:
”For Volunteers Week, one of our members, Stroke Association Scotland, has launched a new video showcasing some of their volunteers talking about what they do for the charity and why.
They are currently recruiting volunteers in Irvine, Prestwick, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scottish Boarders, West Lothian, Perth and Inverness to expand vital face-to-face support.
You watch their video and learn more about volunteering with them.”
