Eugene Fan: Honoured that Our Lancet Haematology Viewpoint is Featured in This Month’s Issue Cover
Eugene Fan, Senior Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:
”Honoured that our Lancet Haematology Viewpoint, “Sustainable Anticoagulation for Climate-Resilient Care” is featured in this month’s Lancet Haematology cover and spotlighted with the quote:
“As climate change intensifies, sustainable anticoagulation must become a core element of resilient, value-based health care—uniting clinical excellence with planetary health.”
The Lancet Haematology cover illustration by Marian F. beautifully captures this, and according to the artist, the “artwork features a doctor looking toward a green turbine in search of solutions for more sustainable care. In his hand, the spinning turbine disperses a broken blood clot, symbolising the balance between innovation, health, and climate action.”
Our multidisciplinary team comprising of Emmanuel J Favaloro, Kevin Milla, Scott McAlister, Roopen Arya, Giuseppe Lippi, Jeannie Tey, Amanda Zain, Helen Okoye spanning six continents explored how anticoagulation therapy—from drug manufacturing and laboratory testing to long-term monitoring—can integrate sustainability without compromising patient outcomes.
We propose a systems-level decarbonisation framework grounded in life-cycle assessment, green laboratory operations, antithrombotic stewardship, telemedicine, and digital health innovation, ensuring equitable and climate-resilient care globally.
