Felice Gragnano։ Turning Cardiovascular Risk Into Action

Felice Gragnano, Associate Professor and Cardiologist at Università Vanvitelli, shared a post on LinkedIn:

”Prevent sooner. Prevent again. Better prevention.

The data presented at ESC Congress 2026 focus on one of the most important challenges of cardiovascular prevention: recognizing the risk early and then being able to translate the evidence into interventions that are actually applied in clinical practice.

We discussed this in this interview for Cardio Info, starting from the REACT and STAREE studies and arriving at the topic of diagnostic and therapeutic inertia and the implementation gap.

REACT reminds us that atherosclerosis can begin long before its clinical manifestation and that estimating risk and measuring disease are not the same thing.

STAREE shows that, even in old age, cardiovascular risk remains modifiable: chronological age, alone, should not make us give up prevention.

But knowing the risk and having effective therapies is not enough. The real challenge is to transform the evidence into timely, intensive and continuous prevention, overcoming inertia and bridging the gap between guidelines and daily practice, as evidenced by the results of our study Quality Matters.

Because prevention is not a single prescriptive act, but a path:

Identify, followed by measurement, treatment, re-evaluation, intensification, and maintenance.”
