Geraldine Walsh: Exploring Blood Components in Transfusion Today

Geraldine Walsh, Lead Development Scientist at Canadian Blood Services,  shared International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT)‘s post on LinkedIn, adding:

“I was delighted be able to contribute to July’s issue of Tranfusion Today through my work with the ISBT Blood Components working party.

Congratulations to all contributors – there’s a lot a great information in there.

Read and enjoy!”

International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) shared a post on LinkedIn:

The July issue of Transfusion Today is here!

This edition shines a spotlight on the Blood Components Working Party, exploring how component science continues to evolve at pace – from cold-stored and lyophilised platelets, to the renewed interest in low-titre group O whole blood for trauma resuscitation, advances in plasma storage technologies, emerging blood component alternatives, and the move towards non-DEHP blood bags.

You’ll also find novel approaches to assessing red cell quality, the role of extracellular vesicles in blood components, and innovative drone delivery systems improving equitable access to blood products in resource-limited settings.

Beyond the science, this issue captures the momentum from ISBT Kuala Lumpur and an important leadership transition as Lin Fung guides ISBT into its next chapter.

Don’t miss updates from our Academy, contributions from ISBT Regions (including a must-read review on biobanks in transfusion medicine), and news from Central Office on the ISBT Young Professionals Council collaboration with EHA, the Cellular Therapies Workshop in Prague, and the work of the International Coalition for Safe Plasma Proteins (ICSPP).

With thanks to our authors, reviewers, volunteers and readers whose expertise and collaboration keep this Society thriving.”
