Harshal Kale: From Personal Journey to Global Advocacy
Harshal Kale, Regional Program Manager of South Asia and East Asia at World Federation of Hemophilia, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Standing outside the United Nations in Geneva in 2024 (1st Photo), I found myself wondering what it would be like inside, how global health discussions and decisions take shape, and what it would mean to be there posibly for the cause I care deeply about.
In a full-circle moment, Two years later, I returned to Geneva and had the privilege of representing the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) at the 79th World Health Assembly in May 2026, engaging with policy-makers, health leaders, clinicians, patient advocates, and partners from around the world.
As someone living with hemophilia, this experience carried special meaning.
What began many years ago as a personal journey navigating a bleeding disorder has evolved into an opportunity to contribute to efforts advancing health equity for people living with hemophilia and bleeding disorders globally.
Throughout the week, I had the opportunity to engage with Health Ministers, Ministry of Health officials, Geneva-based missions, and global health partners from a number of countries.
These conversations provided opportunities to increase awareness of Hemophilia and bleeding disorders, share the work of the global bleeding disorders community, and encourage support for improving diagnosis, treatment, and comprehensive care.
Representing the WFH in these discussions was both a privilege and a reminder of the importance of sustained collaboration between patient organizations, governments, healthcare professionals, and international partners in driving meaningful progress.
I hope to share more reflections from the WHA week in the days ahead, including a side event focused on advancing health equity for bleeding disorders, meetings with health leaders from across the region, and an important milestone for the global bleeding disorders community at this year’s WHA.
For now, I am grateful to for the opportunity to contribute to a cause that has shaped both my personal and professional journey.”
