“Today I am sharing Chapter IV of Blood Donation: Beyond Good Intentions.
The architects of the system
For years, we have asked why people do not donate.
Perhaps it is time to change the direction of the question.
Who designed the rules?
Who decided which models are allowed to exist?
Who keeps known barriers in place?
Who has the power to change the system and chooses not to?
When a building fails once, we investigate the accident.
When it fails repeatedly, we investigate the design.
And when we know the flaws in the design and continue building the same way, perhaps we are no longer talking only about resistance to change.
Perhaps we need to start talking about responsibility. And, in some cases, negligence.
This chapter is about science, governance, political power, and who must answer when a system has produced insufficient results for decades.
