Kayla Kilani: First-Ever CT Perfusion Scan Performed Inside a Mobile Stroke Unit

Kayla Kilani, Stroke Program Manager at UCLA Health, shared on LinkedIn:

”A world first, and I had the privilege of being part of the team that made it happen.

The UCLA Health Mobile Stroke Unit has performed the first-ever CT perfusion scan inside an ambulance.

This isn’t just a technical milestone.

It means that before a stroke patient ever reaches the hospital, we can now see exactly how much brain tissue is at risk and how much remains salvageable, the same level of imaging previously only possible in a hospital setting.

Stroke kills 2 million brain cells a minute. Every second we can save in the prehospital setting matters.

This breakthrough was made possible through the vision and relentless drive of May Nour and Ameera Ismail in collaboration with Siemens Healthineers, and the incredible team behind the UCLA Arline and Henry Gluck Stroke Rescue Program who show up every day to push the boundaries of what’s possible before the patient reaches our doors.

So proud of what this team continues to accomplish.”
