Lesley Van Wyk: What Each Iron Markers Actually Mean
Lesley Van Wyk, Laboratory Manager at National Health Laboratory Service, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”What Each Iron Markers Actually Mean
Ferritin, serum iron, TIBC, transferrin, TSAT, UIBC, hemoglobin, MCV, and reticulocyte hemoglobin each tell a different part of the iron story.
A low or high result does not always mean the same thing. Inflammation, iron deficiency, iron overload, and chronic disease can produce overlapping patterns.
Learn how to read common iron study patterns and why the full panel matters more than any single result.”
